Alan Holds A Different Type of U-verse Party
I have recently been contacted by a very large, foreign teleco operator who wants to see U-verse in action. Because I am under NDA, I can't disclose the organization's name.
They are planning a trip to the U.S. and San Antonio is on their list of cities to visit, which include seeing AT&T corporate, and of course, the Cingular store at Sontera Park demonstrating U-verse.
In our e-mail exchanges, they asked me about the service and I told them rather than giving them a bunch of fluff through e-mail, they could come to my house for a real world demo.
As the result of this exchange, I have now decided that if any foreign Telco or government agency considering getting into the IPTV business, and wants to see a real world set up of the U-verse platform, mi casa es tu casa.
No, you won't get door prizes, an ice cream truck, or friendly people from the phone company like you would at a U-verse party.
You'll get me.
The house maybe clean. It may be dirty. There may be dishes in the sink and left over pizza might be sitting on the counter top.
You won't get a staged demo. You'll get my demo, which consists of handing you the remote and letting you figure it out because it's so fast, so slick and so intuitive. I have re-configured the house so that I am running both IPTV and Cable in the house. I think I am the only person in the US with both platforms in their home. I kept TimeWarner after they lowered my bill by 30%!
I'll give you my vision of where I think the disruption lies, the market opportunity for you, and something I know that AT&T is not doing.....you'll get a free Mexican dinner at MiTierra or LaFonda on North Main so we can continue the discussion. I've even seen Ed dine at La Fonda, so who knows, we might get lucky.
Here are the rules:
1. Send me an email to: alan at weinkrantz dot com.
2. Explain who you are, the role you play, and your travel plans.
3. I will respond and then coordinate a phone conference.
4. If we agree to move forward, I'll ask for a mutual NDA which we can both sign and fax to each other prior to your arrival.
5. I will agree not to disclose what telco or government you are with.
6. I will have the right to blog about your individual visit or perhaps collective visits, but never mention your name, company / government name or strategic plans. I just want to write about my observations from a global perspective.
7. Alan's recommended hotel: The Valencia.
So....if you are interested, let me know.
I welcome the global telecom and governmental community's response.
